Here are streaming videos of Yellowstone wildlife as seen through
my Canon GL-1 Digital video camera. Just click on a video title/connection speed below and Windows Media Player (required)
will start up. If you are unable to view the videos with your browser, download the latest version of Windows Media
Player at the following site:
NOTE: Effective July 5, 2002, many of my higher speed videos are now progressive download
(identified below) - that is, if your connection speed is not quite enough to keep up, you can wait until it is finished
downloading and then press play again and watch it from a temporary file on your computer. These are large files and
will take a LONG time for dial-up connections (not recommended). This should make the videos run smoother and result
in higher quality frames. HINT: If you just want to download a "Progressive" video without watching it, RIGHT-CLICK
on the link, select "SAVE TARGET AS", and select a place on your hard drive to save it for viewing later.
ADDED 8/3/02: I've started adding RealMedia videos to this page as a test to compare it with Windows
Media videos.
The first video is of Wolf #224 of the Druid Peak Pack who came
down from the traditional den site one morning (Spring 2001) and actually walked among a group of about 25 people. We were
all set up with our cameras at the Hitching Post turnoff in the East side of Lamar Valley when it came down and actually came
within 50 feet of where I was standing. ADDED 5/13/02: Videos of eleven Druid Peak Pack wolves attacking a bison
herd with newborn calves and two wolves chasing a bull elk, both happened in Lamar Valley. ADDED 7/23/02:
Videos of two Druid Peak Pack wolves in Lamar Valley near the Soda Butte turnout. ADDED 5/11/03: Videos
of three Druid Peak Pack wolves Attacking and killing a cow elk in Lamar Valley.
The next video is actual footage of wolves attacking and killing a cow elk and
could be disturbing for some people to watch. View this at your own discretion!
The next two videos were taken in Spring of 2000. We were
driving from Mammoth Hot Springs to Norris Junction when we suddenly had to stop for Obsidian (A Grizzly Sow) and her two
new cubs. They put on quite a show for the bear jam including about 5 minutes of nursing her cubs! It was quite a sight and
I got GREAT videos! ADDED 5/13/02: Obsidians cubs about a week after they were kicked out of the den by their mom (Spring
2002).
This next video is of a Grizzly that was startled by wolves, stood
up on it's hind legs, and then took off on a full run. This occurred in Spring 2001 South-Southeast of the Yellowstone institute
in Lamar Valley.
This next video is of two Bull Bison fighting in the Little America area, just before Slough Creek
turnout (October 2001). This is about five minutes long. ADDED 7/23/02: Video of two bison calves attempting to leave
an island on a very fast-moving Madison River (Spring 2001).
This first video ("Screaching Eagle", in RealOne Media) is of a screaching Bald Eagle on
the Madison River in the Fall of 2002. The second video (Noisy Eagle") is of a Bald Eagle South of the
road in the Little America area sounding off while waiting for coyotes to finish eating off of an Elk carcass. The third
video ("Eagle's Nest" - ADDED 7/20/03) is a video of the Eagle's Nest between the West entrance and Madison Junction.
It shows a good view of the adult, chick, and another adult landing with a fish in it's talons! Subsequently, Mom feeds
the chick pieces of the fish.
This next video, taken in June 2002, is of a Black Bear who ran fast and far in the Little America
area until he was able to cross the road at a spot with few people.
This next video, filmed in Spring 2002, takes place in Floating Lake, between Tower Junction and Mammoth
Hot Springs. It starts with a Ruddy Duck courting a female and ends with two Sandhill Cranes sounding off. These
are progressive download files and are for high-speed (DSL/Cable) connections only.
